This Saturday on RFP Presents we will feature a 35th anniversary special of Fleetwood Macs Rumors album. This will include interviews with band members and music from the remastered disc plus unreleased material also. The show airs Saturday (March 16) at 5pm and Sunday (March 17th) at 3pm AZ/Pacific time on RFP.

Fleetwood Mac, one of rock’s most enduring, beloved and successful bands, will circulate a fresh round of Rumours next year with expanded and deluxe versions of the album in celebration of it’s 35th anniversary. Rumours made the band one of the most iconic bands of the 1970s and garnered wide critical praise, earned the Grammy® for Album of the Year, and has now sold more than 40 million copies worldwide since its 1977 debut.
In celebration of the release, the current lineup of the band, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie, both original members since 1967, and Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, who joined the band in 1975, will kick off and their first U.S. tour since 2009 in April. The 34-date jaunt features stops in Philadelphia, New York City, Boston, Chicago and a special appearance at the historic Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

The expanded edition’s three CDs includes the original album and the b-side “Silver Springs,” a dozen unreleased live recordings from the group’s ’77 world tour, and an entire disc filled with unreleased takes from the album’s recording sessions. The deluxe edition includes all of the music from expanded version, plus an additional disc of outtakes a DVD that features “The Rosebud Film,” a 1977 documentary about the album, and the album on vinyl. RUMOURS will be available January 29 from Rhino as the expanded edition and the deluxe edition. Digital versions will also be available.

Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks recorded Rumours against a backdrop personal turmoil, chronicling their raw emotions in songs like “Go Your Own Way,” “Gold Dust Woman” and “Dreams,” the latter becoming the band’s first number one smash.

The disc of 12 unreleased live recordings from the band’s 1977 Rumours tour features performances from concerts in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Nashville and Columbia, S.C. The songs include album tracks like “The Chain,” “Oh Daddy” and “Songbird” as well as “World Turning” and “Rhiannon,” two tracks from the group’s 1975 eponymous release.

Producers also have compiled a selection of 16 unreleased recordings from the album’s sessions including early takes of “Go Your Own Way,” “I Don’t Want To Know” and the popular b-side “Silver Springs.” There are also several demo recordings, including one for the outtake “Planets of the Universe,” plus an instrumental version of “Never Going Back Again.”
The deluxe edition of Rumours features three additional pieces. First is an 18-track compilation of session outtakes originally released in the 2004 reissue of the album. Next is the original album on 140-gram vinyl. Finally, there is a DVD with “The Rosebud Film.” This 1977 documentary by Michael Collins includes interviews, rehearsal footage and live performances of: “World Turning,” “Rhiannon,” “Say You Love Me,” “Go Your Own Way,” “You Make Loving Fun” and “I’m So Afraid.”

John Lennon – “The Final Interview”

This 90 minute radio special centers on John Lennon’s last radio interview, along with Yoko, recorded at the Dakota in New York City, only hours before Lennon’s death on December 8, 1980. The special is mixed with music from the Lennon’s solo work, the Double Fantasy album, as well as songs from The Beatles.

The original team that conducted the interview (Dave Sholin, Laurie Kaye, Ron Hummel and Bert Keane) came together to re-create this historic radio special. Along with highlights from the interview, they relay their own unique memories of that day, including events leading to the interview, meeting Lennon and Yoko Ono, and a curb-side encounter with Mark David Chapman, the deranged killer who gunned down Lennon that night.

11982646-man-called-bruce-at-sequatchie-festival-10612Not that long ago, listening to the radio was part of daily life for most Americans. Since the 1920s, when the first commercial broadcasts in the United States began, radio has been a part of our culture, despite the invention and proliferation of the television and other more “advanced” entertainment devices.

If you were born before 8-track and cassette tapes (remember those?), CDs, MP3s or hip hop, and you remember listening to your favorite FM (or AM) station, then you know what I’m talking about.

And, if you’re like me and you’re tired of listening to corporate-owned, Top 40 radio stations, or if you’re sick of paying a monthly fee for a digital radio subscription to Sirius, then you should take a listen to http://RadioFreePhoenix.com where they feature Rock, Folk, Blues, Psychedelic, New Wave, Americana, Progressive and other musical styles from the 60’s, all the way up to today’s music. The dedicated staff headed by Phoenix, AZ radio veteran Andy Olson, brings back the heart, soul and passion of the great underground rock stations of the past.

You see, kids… back in the old days, we didn’t have iTunes, iPods or subscription radio. If we wanted to expand our musical horizons, we turned on our radios. I don’t mean a digital device that only carries a signal if you pay $21.00 per month. I’m talking about the thing that might disappear from the dashboards of new cars any day now, if we don’t start paying attention to it. And, by the way, broadcast radio (via internet or airwaves) is still FREE! 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, sending out good vibes and great music at no cost to the listener!

According to RadioFreePhoenix.com’s website, “…millions of people have turned off their radios over the years because they couldn’t find anything worth listening to. The baby boomer generation of the 60’s and 70’s had the hope that anything is possible, and enjoyed this kind of musical freedom, not knowing that its time was limited and that radio stations all over the country would one day play a homogenized blend of music (no matter what the format) that disregarded the regional diversity that it was originally created in.”

As part of its desire to continue to support musical freedom, RadioFreePhoenix.com is sponsoring the Going West Tour featuring award-winning songwriter, A Man Called Bruce (http://facebook.com/AManCalledBruce) based in southeast Tennessee.

It turns out that RFP’s founder, Andy Olson has known A Man Called Bruce for many years. In fact, it was Olson who came up with the unusual moniker for the then young songwriter nearly 35 years ago, during his first solo recordings in Olson’s basement recording studio.

Now, after going their separate ways for several decades, the songwriter and the radio entrepreneur have rekindled their friendship.

The station’s sponsorship of the cross-country tour is an effort to bring attention to the finely crafted original roots, rock, country and blues songs written and performed by A Man Called Bruce, and the 8 year old web-based radio station, whose playlist includes artists such as Pandemonium, The Magnetic Fields, Neil Young, Tedeschi Trucks Band, King Straggler, Robin Trower, Molly Hatchet, Joey Ramone, Chris Stamey, Ken Sharp, Jimi Hendrix Experience, Miniature Tigers, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Ultravox, Moles, Lauren Christy, Fleetwood Mac, Phil Collins, Santana, Cranberries, Johnny Cash, and of course, A Man Called Bruce.

The Going West Tour begins in Nashville, TN at Ri’chard’s Cafe on November 30th, and ends December 29th at Flipnotic’s in Austin, TX. Included are stops at Java Cabana Coffeehouse in Memphis, Sauced on Paseo in Oklahoma City, Corrales Bistro Brewery near Albuquerque, Create Cafe in Tucson, The Sail Inn and Yucca Tap Room (both in Tempe, AZ), and Fiddler’s Dream Coffeehouse in Phoenix. A venue for the show in El Paso, TX has yet to be confirmed.

Radio Free Phoenix is virtually the only radio station that has ever played Elton Duck. We have had a copy of this stellar unreleased album since we went on the air in 2004 and now for the first time from the original master tapes,  The Elton Duck Album is available to you!

Radio Free Phoenix presents the Elton Duck Listening Party (to benefit the Condello Scholarship Fund) at Stinkweeds Records in Phoenix on July 13th!

Here is the history on the band:

In the late 70’s, long time Phoenix rock legend, Mike Condello played lead guitar for a new-wave L.A. pop band called ELTON DUCK. They recorded a dozen tracks for Arista Records, but the record has remained unreleased until now. Mike passed away in 1995, but with the release of the Elton Duck CD, his musical legacy is being fulfilled thanks to a recent agreement reached with Sony Music.

While supplies last, anyone who donates a minimum of $20 to The Mike Condello Music Scholarship Fund will receive a copy of this limited edition CD as a thank you gift. This fund benefits college-bound students from Mike’s alma mater, North High School in Phoenix.

Elton Duck’s Mike McFadden and Andy Robinson, will be on hand to sign CD’s at the ELTON DUCK listening party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 13 at Stinkweeds Record Exchange on Camelback and Central in Phoenix. Radio Free Phoenix will be there for the offical release of the long awaited Elton Duck album along with Andy Olson & Liz Boyle! Please join use for this unique event!
